"Santa Maria Assunta" in Villa Scirca

Dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and erected during the XIII Century, this Roman Church is one of the oldest in Sigillo: its linear structure harmonizes with the valuable frescoes by Matteo da Gualdo, and the treasure chest of art testifies the artistic flowering of the Umbrian painters and the apostolic faith of priests and monks. Unfortunately, an altar and parts of the frescoes have disappeared in the course of time.

However, you can still admire a stone altar and a Roman column found during archaeological excavation, which was probably a support for the altar.
