The word "Bottaccio" comes from the local dialect and means a natural depression which acts as a rainwater collection. In effects, in this area two streams merge: the Doria and the stream of S. Martin. The first has its source in the mountain in Sigillo, while the other name derives from the name "Valletta" (the area where a stream rises).
In 1983, this basin was covered with concrete, then they realized to have made a mistake.
For this reason, the municipality of Sigillo, with the help of the "Comunità Montana", solved the problem, returning to the original basin shape.
In ancient times, these two streams worked as natural engine of three grain mills and a sawmill, through the harnessing of water.
